Rady Children’s MyChart is the Epic patient portal used by Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and participating affiliated pediatric providers. Because this is a children’s health system, the most important portal rules are not generic login instructions—they are the changing privacy and access rules as a child becomes a teenager and then an adult.
This guide explains Rady’s current login, 7-day activation-code rule, parent and teen accounts, proxy access, EZ Arrival, video visits, MyChart Bedside, same-day urgent-care scheduling, medical-record requests, separate hospital/professional/primary-care billing, financial assistance and the exact support route to use when something fails.
Quick answer: use www.mychartatradychildrens.org for the current Rady Children’s MyChart portal. Rady lists MyChart technical support at 877-902-4278 and MyChart@rchsd.org. Activation codes expire after 7 days, MyChart automatically logs out after about 15 minutes of inactivity, and routine portal messages generally receive a reply within 3 business days.
Keep private information on Rady’s official portal. MyChart-Health.org is an independent informational website. It is not Rady Children’s Health, Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego or Epic. Never enter a password, activation code, two-step verification code, Social Security information, medical-record details, insurance-card image or payment information into this article.
Which Official Rady MyChart Page Should You Use?
Rady’s portal now includes login recovery, passkey login, Guest Pay, price estimates and MyChart Central links on the main login screen. Account enrollment is different from many adult health systems because children usually need a parent/guardian proxy account and teens require age-specific privacy handling.
| Task | Official route | Have ready | What happens next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sign in | Rady MyChart login | Username/password, MyChart Central account or configured passkey. | Open the child/patient profile available through your authorized access. |
| Activate an account | Activation page | Activation code and patient date of birth. | Create the permanent MyChart credentials. |
| No activation code | Signup route | Follow Rady’s age/proxy requirements; some accounts need clinic verification. | Rady may require in-person or phone enrollment depending on account type. |
| Forgot login information | Use Forgot login information? on the official login screen. | Access to the contact information tied to the account. | Recover access or call the Service Desk. |
| Pay without signing in | Pay as Guest | Guarantor name and guarantor account number from the statement. | Open the visit account and make payment on Rady’s MyChart system. |
| Estimate a service | Patient Estimates | Procedure/location details and insurance information when relevant. | Review a potential price range rather than a guaranteed final bill. |
Rady MyChart Signup Depends on Who Needs Access
Rady does not treat every MyChart account the same. A parent accessing a young child, a teenager requesting private access and an adult former pediatric patient follow different enrollment paths.
Activation code
Rady commonly issues an activation code during a doctor’s-office visit. Enter it on the official activation page with the requested patient information.
The current MyChart FAQ says the code expires after 7 days and cannot be reused after successful activation.
Lost or expired code
Contact the child’s clinic for a replacement. If activation still fails, use:
Do not assume “new user signup” means every pediatric account can be created anonymously online. Rady’s parent, teen, foster-parent and caregiver accounts have identity and authorization requirements. Follow the exact enrollment type below.
Account Security: Two-Step Verification, Passkeys and Recovery
Two-step verification
Rady MyChart can send a one-time code by email or text after username/password entry. Rady recommends this extra protection for patient accounts.
Passkey login
The current login screen includes Log in with passkey for users who have already configured that method.
Face ID / fingerprint
Rady’s MyChart FAQ says the official mobile app can use device biometric login when supported.
Forgot password
Use Forgot Password? on Rady’s official login page. The Service Desk can also help reset access.
Locked out
Stop repeated login attempts and call 877-902-4278.
Unexpected logout
Rady says MyChart automatically signs out after about 15 minutes of keyboard inactivity.
The Most Important Rady MyChart Rule: Access Changes at Ages 12 and 18
Rady’s pediatric portal is built around California confidentiality law. A parent who has full access when a child is 10 should not expect the identical view when that child turns 12.
Parent/guardian proxy
Rady says parents and caregivers generally have access to the child’s full MyChart health-information profile.
Teen privacy applies
The teen should have a separate private MyChart account. Parent/guardian proxy access becomes limited because certain health information is protected by California law.
Adult controls access
Parent proxy access automatically ends. An adult patient may later authorize another adult caregiver through Rady’s adult proxy process.
| Account | Enrollment | Important Rady-specific details |
|---|---|---|
| Parent/legal guardian proxy | In person or by phone through the Rady clinic. | Photo ID required; proxy must be the parent/legal guardian. Phone enrollment can require an email address and photo ID sent to the clinic. Rady says setup takes about 15 minutes. |
| Teen account, age 12–17 | In person only. | Parent/legal guardian and teen both sign consent. Teen must use a different email and cell number from the parent proxy account. |
| Teen limitations | Applies after teen account setup. | Rady says teens cannot sign consents, complete EZ Arrival or launch telemedicine visits from their own teen MyChart account. |
| Adult account, age 18+ | In person or by phone with photo identification. | If the patient already had an active teen account, it automatically converts to an adult account. Existing parent proxy access ends at 18. |
Set up the teen account before the 18th birthday. Rady explicitly warns that if no teen account exists, MyChart access is lost when the patient turns 18 and the now-adult patient must create a new adult account.
Foster Parent and Adult Caregiver Access Have Separate Rules
Foster-parent access
Rady requires the process to start in person and be approved by the County Placement Worker and Health Information Management.
- Photo ID.
- Foster Parent Request for MyChart Proxy Access form.
- Additional documentation if requested.
- Access is time-limited to one year and requires re-approval to renew.
Adult designated caregiver
An adult patient can authorize a parent or another adult to receive MyChart access. The patient signs the designated-caregiver consent and Health Information Management approves it.
Rady’s current enrollment page says this approved adult-caregiver access does not have a set expiration.
Rady also states that parent/caregiver MyChart access for a deceased patient is automatically extended for three months. Questions about extensions should go to the Service Desk at 877-902-4278 and ask for the MyChart team.
What Rady Children’s MyChart Can Actually Do
Appointments
Request, schedule, reschedule, confirm or cancel eligible appointments.
Test results
View most released laboratory and other results, often before the clinician contacts you.
Medication refills
Request eligible prescription renewals from participating care teams.
Messages
Send non-urgent questions securely through the patient record.
Notes and AVS
Review available care-team notes and After Visit Summaries from past encounters.
EZ Arrival
Complete supported outpatient check-in tasks starting 48 hours before the visit.
Telemedicine
Access scheduled virtual visits after completing the required preparation.
Medical records
Submit a formal records request directly to Rady Health Information through MyChart.
Billing
View eligible balances, co-pays, payment history and billing documents.
Results, Messages, Notes and Record Corrections
Results can appear immediately
Rady says most test results can be viewed as soon as they become available. That means a parent or patient may see a result before the provider has reviewed it.
Sensitive results can be restricted
Rady says providers determine which result types can be released electronically, and some very sensitive results are not released through MyChart.
Message response time
Rady’s FAQ says a doctor or nurse generally replies within 3 business days.
Find notes after a visit
Rady instructs families looking for certain reports to open Appointments and Visits under Visits and then review Notes for the relevant encounter.
Something in the chart is wrong
MyChart displays information from the child’s electronic medical record. Rady says inaccurate clinical information should be discussed with the doctor so the source record can be corrected.
Preferred name vs legal name: Rady says preferred-name changes can be made from Personal Information in MyChart. A legal-name change requires an office visit with updated identification.
Use proxy access before messaging about another family member. A message becomes part of the chart from which it is sent. Do not place one child’s medical issue into another person’s record.
Appointments and EZ Arrival: Start 48 Hours Before the Visit
Rady calls its MyChart pre-check-in workflow EZ Arrival. Completing it before leaving home can prevent spending clinic time repeating insurance, medication and consent information.
Review the visit details
Sign in, go to Visits → Upcoming Visits and open View details for the correct appointment.
Open EZ Arrival when it becomes available
Rady says EZ Arrival opens about 48 hours before an eligible outpatient appointment.
Review the child’s current information
Confirm or update demographics, medications, allergies and active health issues.
Verify insurance and forms
Upload or update insurance information, complete assigned questionnaires and sign available pre-visit consents.
Handle the co-pay when prompted
Eligible visits can allow online co-pay payment during pre-check-in.
Arrival timing matters. Rady’s specialty-clinic guidance says a patient arriving more than 20 minutes after the scheduled arrival time may need to be rescheduled.
Teen accounts cannot complete EZ Arrival or sign consents themselves under Rady’s current rules. Make sure the appropriate parent/guardian proxy account is ready before the visit.
MyChart Can Also Hold a Same-Day Urgent-Care Timeslot
Rady’s current urgent-care wait-time page says participating urgent-care locations offer walk-in timeslots that families can reserve using MyChart same-day scheduling.
Use MyChart when the child can safely wait
Check Rady’s live urgent-care availability, choose a participating location and follow the MyChart same-day scheduling instructions.
Do not use a timeslot for an emergency
Difficulty breathing, severe injury, loss of consciousness or another emergency needs emergency care, not a portal reservation.
Rady Telemedicine: Activate MyChart Before Appointment Day
An active MyChart account is required for Rady video visits. Some specialty appointments also require Zoom, so portal access alone is not always the entire setup.
Before the visit
- Confirm the MyChart username and password work.
- Open Visits → Upcoming Visits and read appointment details.
- Complete EZ Arrival when available.
- Have the child’s medication list ready.
- Collect requested outside test results or images.
- Record home vital signs if the clinical team asked for them.
- Upload requested photos through a secure MyChart message.
Device setup
- Smartphone, tablet or computer with camera.
- Reliable Wi-Fi/internet.
- Camera and microphone permissions enabled.
- Zoom installed when the clinic says it is required.
- Quiet, private place with useful lighting.
New to MyChart before a video visit? Rady’s Telemedicine page currently directs families to call 858-966-5999 and choose option 7 for setup help.
Teen-account limitation: Rady says teens cannot launch telemedicine visits from their own teen MyChart accounts. Make sure the appropriate proxy workflow is ready before appointment time.
MyChart Bedside: Extra Information During ED, Urgent Care or an Inpatient Stay
Rady’s MyChart Bedside extends the portal while the child is receiving hospital-based care. You need an active MyChart account to use it.
Other Bedside tools
- Review active diagnoses and medications.
- Read assigned patient-education materials.
- Sign supported electronic consents.
- Receive updates when new information is added.
What happens after discharge?
Rady says the inpatient Bedside application is no longer accessible after discharge, but relevant information remains available through the regular MyChart account.
MyChart Bedside does not replace talking with the nurse or hospital team. During an emergency or active inpatient concern, contact the care team directly.
Medical Records: MyChart Request vs Written Release
Rady lets eligible users send a formal records request through MyChart. If portal access is not available—or the request needs special legal documentation— Health Information Management also accepts written authorization.
Request records through MyChart
- Sign in to Rady MyChart.
- Select Request Medical Records.
- Complete the electronic form with the records and dates you need.
- Submit the request to Health Information.
Rady’s current MyChart FAQ says Health Information responds to these requests within 14 business days.
Written request when MyChart is not enough
Complete Rady’s Authorization for Use or Disclosure of Health Information. The request must be signed and complete or it can be returned for correction.

Rady Billing: First Identify What Kind of Bill You Have
Rady has separate billing contacts for hospital care, specialty physicians and primary care. The guarantor-number prefix on the statement is a practical shortcut to the correct department.
| Bill | Guarantor clue | Current billing contact |
|---|---|---|
| Hospital services | Guarantor number begins with F. |
858-966-4912 pfscustomerservices@rchsd.org |
| Specialty physician | Guarantor number begins with S. |
858-309-6290 mpfcustomerservice@rchsd.org |
| Primary care | Guarantor number begins with 4. |
858-502-1100 RCPMS_PFSQuestions@rchsd.org |
Guest Pay
The official Pay as Guest tool asks for the guarantor name and guarantor account number shown on the statement.
Only the guarantor sees billing
Rady says online billing information and payment access are tied to the account’s financially responsible guarantor.
One child can have several visit accounts
A visit account groups charges for a particular episode of care. Multiple visit accounts can each have their own balance.
Generate an itemized bill inside MyChart
- Open Billing.
- Select View Balance Details.
- Open Details or Documents.
- Select Get Itemized Bill.
- Enter the date range.
- Select Generate.
Update insurance through MyChart
- Open Menu.
- Choose Insurance Summary or Coverage.
- Select Add Insurance or Update Coverage.
- Upload clear images of the front and back of the insurance card.
- Submit the change for review.
Paperless billing can be changed. From Billing Summary, scroll below the account boxes and use the option to cancel paperless billing, then choose to receive paper statements.
Outside organizations providing certain services—such as some imaging equipment or anesthesia services— may continue sending separate statements outside Rady’s paperless MyChart preferences.
Financial Assistance: Current Rady Policy Goes Beyond Uninsured Families
Rady’s January 2025 Financial Assistance Program includes charity care and discounted payments for qualifying uninsured patients and for some insured patients facing high medical costs or uncovered charges.
| Situation | Published policy level | Potential assistance |
|---|---|---|
| Uninsured | Family income up to 400% of Federal Poverty Level. | Current policy lists 100% charity care for qualifying medically necessary care. |
| Uninsured | Above 400% through 450% FPL. | Current policy lists a 75% discounted-payment rate. |
| Uninsured | Above 450% through 550% FPL. | Current policy lists a 50% discounted-payment rate. |
| Insured with high costs or non-covered charges | Income thresholds and high-medical-cost criteria apply. | Current policy provides assistance for some qualifying insured families as well. |
Rady’s current policy defines high medical costs using out-of-pocket medical spending that can exceed 10% of family income under specified policy calculations. Eligibility is determined by Rady Financial Counseling, not by this article.
Financial Counseling
Current published hours:
Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–10:30 p.m.
Saturday: 7 a.m.–8:30 p.m.
Sunday: 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
What to expect
Rady may review household income, insurance/other coverage and documented medical expenses. Financial Counseling can also help families explore government-sponsored or lower-cost coverage.
Before Care: Use the Rady Estimate Tool Instead of Treating Gross Charges as Your Price
Self-service estimate
Rady MyChart provides a Patient Estimates tool for a potential range of charges. Signing in can save time by using insurance information already on file.
Hospital estimate question
Rady’s current billing FAQ directs hospital-estimate questions to:
The MyChart login screen also says families with advanced pricing questions can call 858-576-1700 and ask for Patient Financial Services.
An estimate is not the final bill. Insurance processing, professional services, actual clinical care delivered and separate outside providers can change final patient responsibility.
Uninsured/self-pay families can also ask Rady about a Good Faith Estimate for scheduled non-emergency services under applicable federal rules.
Rady MyChart on iPhone and Android
Rady uses Epic’s MyChart mobile app. After installing the app, search for and select the Rady Children’s organization before signing in.
Mobile features
Rady lists results, messages, appointments, visit directions, After Visit Summaries, medications, allergies, immunizations and health issues among available mobile features.
Have MyChart at another hospital?
Rady supports Epic’s Happy Together linking feature. Linked organizations may allow selected allergies, care team information, medications, messages, results and visits to appear together.
Official MyChart Security Video Endorsed by Rady Children’s
Rady’s official MyChart FAQ directly links this MyChart two-step verification tutorial. It is included here because Rady itself points families to this exact video—not because it happened to appear in a YouTube search.
Rady’s own video library also includes tutorials for setting up a teen account, reading medical notes and viewing medical information in MyChart. VideoObject schema is not added because complete verified upload metadata for the embedded tutorial was not available from the official Rady page.

If Your Child Also Receives Care at Another MyChart Hospital
MyChart is an Epic platform, but each health system sets its own age limits, proxy rights, telehealth workflow, billing access and security settings. Rady’s age-12 privacy shift is especially pediatric-specific.
Rady Children’s MyChart Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the official Rady Children’s MyChart website and support number?
Use www.mychartatradychildrens.org for Rady Children’s MyChart. Rady lists the MyChart Service Desk at 877-902-4278 and MyChart@rchsd.org.
2. How long is a Rady MyChart activation code valid?
Rady says an activation code expires after 7 days and becomes invalid after its first successful use. Contact the child’s clinic or the MyChart Service Desk if the code was lost or expired.
3. Why does a parent’s MyChart access change when a Rady patient turns 12?
California confidentiality laws protect certain teen health information. Rady gives parents/guardians broad access for children under 12, but parent proxy access becomes limited from ages 12 through 17 while the teen receives separate private MyChart access.
4. How does a 12- to 17-year-old get a Rady MyChart teen account?
Teen enrollment is completed in person. The teen and parent/legal guardian both sign consent, the parent presents photo ID, and the teen account must use a different email address and cell phone from the parent proxy account.
5. What happens to Rady MyChart when the patient turns 18?
Parent/guardian proxy access automatically ends at 18. If the patient already has an active teen MyChart account, Rady says it automatically converts to an adult account. Without a teen account, the new adult must create an adult account.
6. How long should I wait for a reply to a Rady MyChart message?
Rady says users generally receive a reply within 3 business days. MyChart messages are not for urgent situations; call the doctor’s office for immediate concerns or 911 for an emergency.
7. Can I see my child’s Rady test results before the provider calls me?
Yes. Rady says most test results are visible as soon as they become available, so families can see them before provider review. Some sensitive result types are not released electronically.
8. How long does a medical-record request submitted through Rady MyChart take?
Rady’s MyChart FAQ says Health Information responds to a MyChart medical-record request within 14 business days. Formal written request options are also available through the Health Information Department.
9. Which Rady billing number should I call?
Check the guarantor number: hospital bills generally begin with F and use 858-966-4912; specialty physician bills generally begin with S and use 858-309-6290; primary-care bills generally begin with 4 and use 858-502-1100.
10. Does my child need MyChart for a Rady telemedicine visit?
Yes. Rady requires an active MyChart account for video visits. EZ Arrival is available about 48 hours before eligible appointments, and some specialty visits also require Zoom. Rady says teen accounts cannot independently launch telemedicine visits.
