Lurie MyChart: Login & Patient Portal Guide

Lurie MyChart is the patient portal used by Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, its outpatient locations and participating pediatric practices. Because this is a children’s health system, account access changes as a child grows: a parent’s view of an 8-year-old’s record is not the same as access to a 14-year-old’s record.

This guide covers the real tasks families run into—login, activation, teen privacy, proxy access, test results, appointments, photos, telemedicine, medical records, bills, insurance and the correct support department.

Official portal mychart.luriechildrens.org
MyChart support 1-833-706-4507
Appointments 1-800-543-7362
How family access changes with age
Patient age 0–11 Parent/legal-guardian proxy can receive the available portal features.
Broad proxy access Results, diagnoses, medications, questionnaires and other available information.
Patient age 12–17 Caregiver automatically moves to privacy-limited Standard Access.
Enhanced access needs consent Signed authorization can add notes, results and other encounter-specific information.
Teen age 13–17 A teen may have a personal limited MyChart account.
Use the teen’s contact info Lurie says the teen’s own phone number or email should be used when activating a teen account.
At age 18 Existing parent/guardian proxy access is automatically revoked.
Adult patient decides The adult can later authorize another person again through Lurie’s adult access process.

Quick answer: the official Lurie Children’s MyChart login is mychart.luriechildrens.org. For technical account help at Lurie Children’s facilities, call 1-833-706-4507. MyChart is free, but some clinical interactions performed through MyChart—such as a qualifying E-Visit—can be billed to insurance.

Privacy first: MyChart-Health.org is an independent informational website. It is not Lurie Children’s, Epic Systems or the official Lurie MyChart portal. Do not enter a password, activation code, two-step verification code, medical-record number, date of birth, Social Security number, insurance details, test result or payment information on this website.

Confirm the Correct Portal Before You Sign In

“Lurie MyChart” means the MyChart environment associated with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and participating pediatric practices. Chicago families often use more than one hospital system, so the organization name shown on the login page matters.

You want Lurie Children’s MyChart if…

  • Your child received care at Lurie Children’s main hospital or an official Lurie outpatient center.
  • Your child is seen at Town & Country Pediatrics or Chicago Area Pediatrics within the Lurie environment.
  • Your Lurie appointment, result or bill directs you to mychart.luriechildrens.org.
  • You need a Lurie teen/proxy authorization form.

Do not confuse Lurie with Northwestern Medicine MyNM

Lurie Children’s is affiliated academically with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, but Lurie MyChart is not the same patient portal as Northwestern Medicine’s MyNM.

If the care was actually provided by Northwestern Medicine, use our Northwestern MyChart / MyNM guide instead of entering credentials into Lurie’s portal.

Chicago-area practical tip: some independent pediatric practices participate in Lurie’s Epic Community Connect environment. Their records may appear through Lurie-associated MyChart, but technical support can still be handled by the practice itself rather than the Lurie Help Desk. The support table later in this article separates those routes.

How to Activate Lurie MyChart Correctly

Lurie Children’s August 2025 activation instructions contain one detail that is easy for parents to get wrong: when a caregiver is activating access for a child, the identity check uses the caregiver’s own date of birth and ZIP code, not the child’s.

Get an official activation invitation

A Lurie team member can start the process, you can call 1-833-706-4507, or use Lurie’s official MyChart site. Activation information may be delivered through an official email or text workflow.

If several invitations arrived, use the most recent one

Lurie’s current activation tip sheet specifically tells families to use the newest email or text if multiple activation messages were generated.

Enter the adult account holder’s date of birth and ZIP code

If you are creating parent/guardian access to a child’s chart, enter your own birth date and ZIP code. They must match the information Lurie has for you.

Create your own username and password

The activation code is not your permanent username. Create unique credentials and do not share them with another parent, spouse or caregiver.

Review and accept Lurie’s MyChart terms

After activation, your account can be connected to the child or children for whom the appropriate proxy permissions have been approved.

60 days Published activation-code expiration
12+ Caregiver access becomes privacy-limited
13–17 Teen may have a personal limited account
18 Existing minor proxy access ends

Already have MyChart for one child? Lurie’s activation guidance says another child can be linked to the caregiver’s existing MyChart account; you do not need to create a completely separate caregiver login for each child.

Lurie MyChart Proxy Access: What Changes at Ages 12, 13 and 18

This is the most important Lurie-specific part of the portal. Illinois and federal privacy rules can protect certain adolescent health information, so a parent may legitimately see less information after a child turns 12 even though nothing is wrong with the account.

Lurie Children’s current family-access model
Patient age / situation Access What it means What to do
Age 0–11 Parent/legal-guardian proxy Proxy can receive the available portal features, including encounter-specific information such as results, diagnoses, medications and questionnaires. Use the parent/guardian signup and keep your own login.
Age 12–17: caregiver Standard Access by default Caregiver can perform non-sensitive activities such as appointments, messages, questionnaires and eCheck-in, but may not see all results, diagnoses or notes. Submit the age 12–17 authorization form if the teen consents to Enhanced Access.
Age 12–17: Enhanced Access Requires appropriate patient consent Adds encounter-specific information that may include test results, medications, diagnoses and questionnaires containing sensitive health information. Use Lurie’s official Authorization Forms (Age 12+) route.
Age 13–17: teen account Teen’s own limited account Lurie’s current terms describe teen functionality such as messaging, questionnaires, medications and appointments. Ask clinic staff for activation information and use the teen patient’s own phone number or email.
Age 18+ Adult patient controls access Parent/guardian proxy from childhood is automatically revoked when the patient becomes an adult. The adult patient can authorize a parent/caregiver again through the adult proxy process or Sharing Hub.

Seeing fewer test results after your child turns 12 can be expected. Do not repeatedly reset the account or assume the chart is broken. Check whether you have Standard Access or Enhanced Access first.

One caregiver account can contain multiple children

Lurie’s FAQ says a caregiver does not need separate MyChart logins for each child. The Lurie signup form can add additional siblings; if the form does not accommodate the entire family, contact the MyChart Help Desk.

Do not share a caregiver password

Each adult should establish their own authorized access. This keeps the medical record, messaging history and audit trail attached to the correct person.

Forgot Username, Password or Access?

Use Account Recovery first

Lurie’s recovery page separates users who have an Epic ID from users with a normal Lurie MyChart username. Choose the route that matches your account.

Two-step verification is part of recovery

Lurie’s FAQ says username/password recovery uses two-step verification to confirm identity. Keep the account’s email address and mobile information current.

Help Desk

If online recovery fails, call 1-833-706-4507.

Do not send a password, one-time code or screenshot of sensitive account information to an unofficial support service.

Logged out after stepping away?

Lurie says MyChart automatically logs users out after approximately 15 minutes of keyboard inactivity to protect privacy.

Browser page is not working?

The portal requires JavaScript and cookies. Use a current browser and allow those features for mychart.luriechildrens.org.

Old activation code fails?

Activation codes are single-use and expire after 60 days. Contact official support rather than trying the same expired code repeatedly.

Test Results, MyChart Messages and Medical Photos

These features are useful, but Lurie has specific timing and record-retention rules that are easy to miss.

What to expect inside Lurie MyChart
Task Lurie’s current guidance What to do if it fails
Outpatient test results Lurie’s FAQ says most outpatient results are automatically released after about 3 business days. If it has been longer, contact the healthcare professional who ordered or manages the test.
Inpatient / sensitive results Some results can require manual release or may not be shown electronically because of sensitivity. Contact the healthcare professional—not technical support—to ask about release.
Historical results Historical outpatient results may appear when the account is first activated; older hospital results may need manual release. Ask the care team or request records through Health Information Management.
Non-urgent message Lurie says to allow at least 2 business days. Its FAQ describes responses within about 48 hours during Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. operating hours. Do not use MyChart for urgent issues; contact the clinical office or appropriate urgent/emergency care.
Send a requested photo You may attach a medical image when requested by a healthcare professional you have seen within the past 18 months. Follow the image-size guidance shown beside “Attach an Image” or contact the care team.

A photo sent through MyChart becomes part of the permanent electronic medical record. Lurie tells families to attach medical photos only when requested. If you sent the wrong image, send a new non-urgent message explaining the mistake so staff can review and correct it.

Teen-access reminder: a caregiver with Standard Access for a 12–17-year-old may not see every test result or note. A missing result can therefore be an access-level issue rather than a missing test.

Appointments: What MyChart Can Schedule and When to Call

Lurie’s main appointment website supports online scheduling for new and existing patients, but MyChart-specific self-scheduling is more restricted.

Return appointments in MyChart

Lurie’s MyChart FAQ says you can request return appointments with healthcare professionals your child has already seen within the previous 18 months.

New appointment or visit type not shown

Use Lurie’s public scheduling system or call 1-800-KIDS-DOC (1-800-543-7362).

Current KIDS DOC scheduling hours are Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–noon.

Canceling in MyChart

Lurie says a clinic cancellation request can be sent through MyChart up to 48 hours before the appointment.

Less than 48 hours before the visit

Call the healthcare professional’s office directly rather than relying on a MyChart cancellation request.

Practice-level scheduling can be narrower. For example, individual primary-care practices may limit which well-child or sick visits can be booked through MyChart. If the visit type is absent, that can be an intentional scheduling rule, not a portal error.

Telemedicine, eCheck-in and E-Visits

eCheck-in opens 72 hours before telemedicine

Lurie says eCheck-in becomes available 72 hours before a telemedicine appointment. Complete the required information and questionnaires to unlock the meeting link.

Video link timing

The telemedicine page says the appointment link is accessible after eCheck-in and approximately 30 minutes before the appointment.

Technical support

For telemedicine connection problems, call 312-227-3514. Lurie identifies this as technical support rather than scheduling support.

Scheduled telemedicine visit

  • Use a phone, tablet or computer with a working camera and microphone.
  • Use a private location and headphones when possible.
  • Join early; Lurie recommends giving yourself about 15 minutes to handle setup issues.
  • An app is not required—the meeting link can be opened from MyChart or the appointment email.
  • Lurie can add live video interpreters for supported languages.

E-Visit is different from a video visit

An E-Visit is an asynchronous MyChart interaction for certain non-urgent concerns. Open the E-Visit section, complete the questionnaire and wait for provider review.

Lurie’s current terms say an E-Visit may take up to 2 days for a response and can be billed to insurance, with copay or coinsurance depending on the plan.

Do not use an E-Visit, portal message or routine telemedicine workflow for an emergency. Call 911 for an emergency. If your child may need to be seen but it is not an emergency, contact the care team or KIDS DOC.

Lurie MyChart App Setup

1. Install the official Epic MyChart app

Download MyChart only from Apple App Store or Google Play.

2. Select the correct organization

Lurie instructs users to choose Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago as the healthcare provider inside the MyChart app.

3. Use the correct family record

If more than one child is connected, verify which patient chart is active before messaging, reviewing a result or opening appointment information.

Language detail: the Lurie login interface offers Spanish, but the current MyChart terms say Message Center messages are handled in English. Ask the care team for interpreter support when needed; Lurie’s telemedicine program can add live video interpreters.

Lurie MyChart Billing: Guarantors, Guest Pay and Payment Plans

A parent can have medical proxy access but still be unable to see billing. Lurie treats clinical proxy access and billing guarantor status as different things.

Why you may not see your child’s bills

Lurie’s MyChart FAQ says you must be the child’s designated Guarantor to use the billing tools for that child.

If you are not the guarantor but still need to make a payment, use official Pay as Guest.

Several children on one guarantor account

In MyChart, Lurie directs guarantors to Billing → Billing Summary → View Account → Details to see visits, dates, patients and associated payment details.

Current Lurie MyChart billing features
Billing task Current portal detail Practical note
Payment methods Credit card, debit card, HSA card or bank account. Eligible methods can be saved and later edited or removed.
Payment plan May be offered from Billing Summary. Lurie says a MyChart-created payment plan uses automatic payment and therefore requires a saved payment method.
Hospital + physician balances May require separate payment plans. The MyChart FAQ says the balances cannot currently be combined into one plan.
Payment posting MyChart payments process in real time. The submission date is the posting date according to the FAQ.
Older statements Online statements begin after June 3, 2020. For an older statement, contact the Customer Service number shown in View Account.

Two official billing phone routes are currently published. Lurie’s MyChart FAQ lists Patient Financial Services at 1-877-924-8200 for billing/payment questions. Lurie’s current general bill-pay page lists 312-227-7181, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., for general billing questions.

Billing became simpler in 2025: Lurie says that beginning January 1, 2025, its providers joined a single medical group, Lurie Children’s Medical Group. Families should now receive bills from that group and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago rather than multiple Lurie physician groups.

2026 Insurance, Cost Estimates and Financial Assistance

Marketplace / Exchange plans

Lurie Children’s currently states that, as of January 1, 2026, it is not contracted with or participating in Marketplace/Exchange insurance plans.

Insurance plans can change, so verify directly with Lurie and the insurer before scheduled care.

Insurance counselor

Lurie lists financial/insurance counselors at 312-227-1230.

Confirm both the hospital and the individual provider when a health plan uses specialty networks.

Cost Estimate Tool

Use the official MyChart estimate tool for planning. For questions about estimates, Lurie lists 312-227-1222.

An estimate is not the final bill. Actual patient responsibility can change based on the services performed, insurance processing, deductibles, coinsurance, prior authorization and whether additional testing or treatment is ordered.

Financial assistance window

Lurie says families can apply for hospital financial assistance beginning on the date care is first provided and up to 240 days after the first post-discharge billing statement.

What assistance may include

  • Help with public-aid applications for eligible inpatients.
  • Payment arrangements or payment plans.
  • Financial assistance based on documented need.
  • Discount options for some uninsured patients meeting program criteria.

Lurie’s financial-assistance policy applies to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Lurie Children’s Medical Group. Independent providers may follow different financial-assistance rules.

Medical Records: MyChart vs a Formal Records Request

MyChart shows portions of the electronic medical record. If you need a complete formal copy, older material, imaging, highly confidential information or records for another institution, use Health Information Management.

What the release form asks for

  • Patient name and date of birth.
  • Address and telephone number.
  • The recipient or institution receiving the records.
  • Specific date range of treatment.
  • Specific record categories requested.
  • Additional authorization for certain highly confidential information.
  • Proper signature and supporting authority documentation when required.
Current published Lurie medical-record copy fees
Pages Medical record Microfilm / electronic documents
1–25 $0.96 per page $1.60 per page
26–50 $0.64 per page $1.60 per page
51+ $0.32 per page $1.60 per page

Potential way to avoid a copy charge: Lurie says there is no charge when health information is sent directly to another healthcare provider at that provider’s address. It also suggests requesting only the specific information needed instead of an entire chart when trying to reduce personal-copy costs.

Processing time

Lurie’s records page says to allow approximately 3–5 business days for processing, while its common-questions section says copies are typically processed within 10 business days. For a time-sensitive request, plan for the longer window and call HIM if needed.

Medical imaging

Imaging can be shared through a secure electronic link. Lurie lists approximately 3–5 business days for imaging processing and Digital Health support at 312-227-3516.

Age 12+ confidential-record rule: Lurie’s medical-record instructions state that certain mental-health, HIV/AIDS, substance-use, sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy and birth-control information can require the patient age 12 or older to authorize release.

Privacy Details Worth Knowing Before You Use Lurie MyChart

Email notifications can still reveal something

Lurie’s terms say notification emails do not contain the private medical information itself, but another person with access to the email account may be able to see that a medical message or new information exists.

Wearable data is not monitored continuously

If Lurie asks a patient to connect health data from a wearable or health app, the current terms warn that this data is not continuously monitored and must not be relied on for urgent problems.

Current AI disclosure: Lurie’s MyChart terms state that the provider may use AI tools to help with functions such as data requests, scheduling, billing-data review or explaining billing. The terms also state that AI may help review MyChart messages and suggest draft response language, with the response reviewed by an appropriate provider. Information used with these tools may be shared with Lurie’s vendors and service providers as described in its terms.

Before signing in

  • Start from mychart.luriechildrens.org or LurieChildren’s.org.
  • Do not use a copied login form from a guide, ad or search-result popup.
  • Use your own caregiver account rather than another adult’s credentials.
  • Do not share activation or verification codes.
  • Sign out when using a shared device.

Before messaging or paying

  • Confirm the correct child/patient record is selected.
  • Remember that messages and uploaded medical images can become part of the medical record.
  • Use official MyChart Billing or Lurie Pay as Guest for payments.
  • Do not use MyChart for urgent or life-threatening problems.
  • Use the official department number when something looks wrong.

Lurie MyChart Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the official Lurie MyChart login website?

The official portal is mychart.luriechildrens.org. Use it for Lurie Children’s records, messages, appointments, billing and approved proxy access. Technical MyChart support for Lurie facilities is 1-833-706-4507.

2. When activating Lurie MyChart for my child, whose date of birth and ZIP code do I enter?

Lurie’s current activation instructions say the adult account holder should enter their own date of birth and ZIP code, even when activating access for a child. The information must match what Lurie has from registration.

3. Why did my Lurie MyChart access change when my child turned 12?

Lurie moves caregiver proxy access for patients ages 12–17 to privacy-limited Standard Access. This can still allow appointments, messages, questionnaires and eCheck-in, but some results, diagnoses or notes may be hidden. Enhanced Access requires the appropriate teen consent and authorization.

4. Can a teenager have their own Lurie MyChart account?

Yes. Lurie says patients ages 13–17 may have a personal MyChart account with limited functionality. Clinic staff can provide activation information, and Lurie says the teen’s own phone number or email should be used when activating the teen account.

5. How long does it take for Lurie outpatient test results to appear?

Lurie’s MyChart FAQ says most outpatient results are automatically released after about 3 business days. Inpatient and sensitive results may require manual release. If a result is still missing, contact the healthcare professional rather than the technical Help Desk.

6. How long should I wait for a reply to a Lurie MyChart message?

Lurie says to allow at least 2 business days. Its FAQ describes responses within about 48 hours during Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. operating hours. Messages received later, on weekends or holidays are treated as received on the next business day.

7. Why can I see my child’s medical information but not the billing section?

Clinical proxy access does not automatically make you the billing guarantor. Lurie says the designated guarantor receives MyChart billing access. A non-guarantor can still use official Pay as Guest when appropriate.

8. What appointments can I schedule or cancel through Lurie MyChart?

Lurie’s FAQ says MyChart can request return appointments with healthcare professionals your child has seen within the previous 18 months. A clinic cancellation request can be sent through MyChart up to 48 hours before the appointment; within 48 hours, call the healthcare professional’s office.

9. When does the video-visit link appear for Lurie telemedicine?

Lurie says eCheck-in opens 72 hours before the visit. After required eCheck-in is completed, the meeting link becomes available and is accessible about 30 minutes before the appointment. Technical telemedicine support is 312-227-3514.

10. How long do Lurie medical-record requests take and is there a fee?

Lurie’s records page asks families to allow about 3–5 business days for processing, while its common-questions section says copies are typically processed within 10 business days. Personal copies can carry per-page fees; records sent directly to another healthcare provider at the provider’s address are released without a copy charge.
